My wife and I had a fun and relaxing stay at Renewal Rock in late December.
Coming from the direction of the Charlotte area, I was pleasantly surprised by the easy drive of approximately 2 hours via interstates and scenic route 11 into the hills. The cottage itself is located very close to the beautiful Table Rock Park (which is visible from the property), and conveniently just off route 11.
When we arrived at the cottage, we had a dedicated driveway separate from the owner’s driveway and home. The cottage was just past the little spa building. Walking into the cottage, we really felt welcomed in the nicely decorated living room and kitchenette. It had all the comforts and conveniences you would want in a home away from home including a Keurig coffee, electric kettle, electric range, mini fridge, adjustable thermostat with remote. I enjoyed lounging on the sofa while enjoying my morning coffee.
The separate bedroom was also invitingly decorated and provided a very relaxing space where we slept very well. There was a desk and speedy Wi-Fi, making this a perfect place to get remote work done. We really enjoyed the decorations and lighting throughout the house, and it also provided a warm and cozy shelter during the cold and occasionally rainy nights.
The highlight of our stay was the Spa experience. We made an appointment and waited on the premises during our appointment time. Our treatment included a deep tissue and hot stone massage stone, followed by salt therapy. Bronwen invited each of us to the spa one at a time (my wife went first), and asked us the normal questions about past injuries, current pains and preferred pressure. It had been a while since I had a massage so I suspected I would need some work, but when Bronwen went to work I felt her identify knots everywhere. She methodically helped it all come undone over the course of the session. Despite the intensity, by the end I felt a deep state of relaxation. I joined my wife in the salt room after I was done with my massage. It was wonderful laying back, awash in the relaxation from the massage and breathing in the salty air for a bit. Both of us highly recommend the full spa experience, and it is worth making the trip for this alone.
There’s no shortage of attractions in the vicinity so it can be hard to pick what to do. One stop we really enjoyed was “TR” (Travelers Rest), about a 25 minutes’ drive. We dropped by the Community Tap and enjoyed a couple of local brews before walking over Sushi Yama for some of the best sushi I’ve had, outside of Japan. They have a great menu, but if you ask you can either do the Omakase experience, or they can also put together a platter based on your budget and preferences.
Overall, we had a great time at Renewal Rock. Now that we have experienced it during the winter, we are thinking of coming back during either spring or summer to enjoy more of the outdoor activities in the area as well- but we would definitely like to make this our home base again.
